Gyeongbuk Startup City Promotion Team launched... 50 organizations participate, challenge ‘Cooperative Startup City’ contest

Gyeongbuk Province and the cities of Gyeongsan, Pohang, and Gumi have joined forces to foster startups with the goal of creating 1,000 startups.

Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 30th that it has launched the 'Startup City Promotion Team', a coalition of 50 organizations that will lead local startup support and innovation.

Six organizations, including the province, Pohang, Gumi, and Gyeongsan, Daegu and Gyeongbuk Small and Medium Venture Business Administration, and Gyeongbuk Creative Economy Innovation Center, are in charge of operation, and 44 organizations in charge of talent training, research, technology, investment, and finance participate as cooperative organizations.

Three cities in the province will challenge the 'Cooperative Startup City' model for the Startup City Project, in which the Ministry of SMEs and Startups will select six non-metropolitan areas in December. By linking the three cities, we plan to establish a support system for each stage of growth, from discovering start-ups to commercialization.

To this end, we are promoting the 'Startup Gyeongbuk 3·5·10' project, which consists of three strategic axes, five-stage growth solutions, and ten key implementation tasks.

Depending on the company's growth stage, Gyeongsan is responsible for starting a business, Pohang is responsible for verifying technology and marketability, and Gumi is responsible for product and commercialization realization.

Step by step, start-up city engines will be operated centered on three cities, and the start-up network will be expanded to the northern region, east coast region, western region, and new airport region by 2030.

The plan is to continue reinvesting after 2031 to create a virtuous cycle of startups.

The province's goal is to foster 1,000 start-ups and 100 deep-tech start-ups by 2030 and create 10,000 start-up jobs.

Lee Cheol-woo, governor of North Gyeongsang Province, said, "In the past, attracting a large factory led to regional development, but in the future, nurturing one promising company is directly related to the future. We will bring together the capabilities of 50 organizations to lead a great transformation in startups and support the emergence of Gyeongbuk-style unicorn companies."
