Trump insists on paying $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans retain the congressional majority

(CNN) - US President Donald Trump insisted again, Friday, that the $5,000 he pledged to pay to every adult American citizen - if Republicans maintain their majority in Congress - will actually be achieved, although the source of this money is not clear.

The US President wrote on his “Truth Social” platform: “(Trump’s dividend) of $5,000, which will be given to all adults in the United States due to the trillions of dollars our country achieves in the areas of economic development, investment, and amazing success, is being criticized by the ‘stupid Democrats who hope it will never happen... but it will happen.’”

This post came two days after he promised to disburse the amount during his speech at the Republican Party conference for the midterm elections.

Trump added: "When I say something, I mean it. The $5,000 will be spent because the people of our country deserve it."

Trump has long claimed - inaccurately - that "more than $20 trillion" has been invested in the United States during his second term so far, but the White House has never been able to prove that this is true.

Trump compared doubts about the promised money to previous skepticism about the possibility of passing his comprehensive tax and spending cuts package, as well as doubts surrounding additional $1,776 checks that his administration issued to members of the military last year, and wrote: “Everyone said it was not possible, but it did happen. Our patriotic soldiers got the money and liked it very much.”

It is noteworthy that the US President surprised many of his administration officials and allies with his promise, which led to a state of internal alert, on Thursday, in an attempt to crystallize the details of this promise, according to two people familiar with the matter told CNN.

Trump made this promise during his speech at the Republican Party convention dedicated to the midterm elections, after discussing the idea with only a narrow circle of close political advisors - including Jason Miller and James Blair - according to what a political advisor to Trump told CNN.
