China News Service, Taizhou, September 9 (Zhou Jian, Jiang Rongliang) In May 2026, China's first 3,500-ton ocean comprehensive scientific research vessel "Haiying Jiako" built with full investment from private capital was successfully launched in Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang. After four months of intense construction, the joint debugging of ship outfitting and scientific research equipment has now entered a comprehensive sprint stage, and sea trials are expected to begin at the end of September. After obtaining a complete set of legal certificates for the ship and crew, this private scientific research vessel will be officially put into market-oriented marine scientific research operations.
Currently, the scientific research vessel "Haiying Jiake" is anchored at Ruoshan Fishing Port in Wenling. Construction is in full swing inside the cabin, with interior decoration and painting operations progressing simultaneously. The ship's conference room, crew accommodation, scientific research cold storage and other living and scientific research facilities are basically installed in place. High-precision scientific research equipment such as deep-sea operation robotic arms and high-definition detection and monitoring systems are all in place. Technical personnel are carrying out single-machine debugging and system joint debugging in an orderly manner.
Jia Xuanrong, technical director of the Wenling Marine Comprehensive Scientific Research Vessel Construction Project and fishermen shareholder, said, "At present, all the high-precision equipment on the ship is basically in place and installed, and various tests are being carried out. Only minor adjustments are left, and the trial voyage is not far away."
In addition to hard-core scientific expedition equipment, ship logistics support facilities have also entered the final stage of improvement. The renovation of the dedicated kitchen on board is about to be completed and it is expected to be ready for meals within a week. It is reported that the kitchen is equipped with a full set of commercial equipment such as steamers, ovens, dough mixers, and dough presses, which can meet diversified catering needs such as cooking, baking, pastry, and stir-fry, and provide stable and sufficient food security for long-term ocean scientific expedition missions.
As the overall construction continues to accelerate, many scientific research units have taken the initiative to connect and negotiate ship cooperation. The project party adheres to the principle of "obtaining certificates first, delivering later", strictly abides by the bottom line of compliance operations, and does not carry out formal commercial cooperation before a full set of statutory certificates are obtained, effectively avoiding operational risks.
After the "Haiying Jake" is certified and put into use, it will be fully open to the national marine scientific research market. It will not be tied to fixed projects or fixed users. It will undertake market-oriented oceanographic scientific research tasks such as seabed surveying and mapping, marine resource exploration, and marine life surveys, and will accept industry and market inspections.
"The sea trial is coming soon. After the scientific research ship completes the sea trial, it can apply for a ship certificate. After obtaining the certificate, the ship will have complete operational qualifications." Jia Xuanrong said that the team will polish every detail of the ship and strive to build a high-quality private scientific research platform so that private forces can help the national marine scientific research undertaking.
