由於黃鱔進入腸道後仍可能持續扭動,加上身體構造可能對腸壁造成傷害,院方透過電腦斷層(CT)檢查發現,異物已進入橫結腸至降結腸一帶,且腸壁出現水腫情形。若繼續拖延,可能進一步造成腸道穿孔、感染甚至腹膜炎。
院方隨即召集消化內科及胃腸外科共同評估,決定優先嘗試透過內視鏡取出,同時由外科團隊待命,一旦無法順利取出,或發現腸道已經穿孔,就必須立即改採手術處理,經醫療團隊合作,最終成功將長達55公分的活黃鱔從男子體內取出。進一步檢查發現,其腸道已有多處潰瘍,並出現黏膜充血、糜爛等損傷。所幸經治療後情況穩定,男子最後順利出院。
