平鎮地下車站為「台鐵都會區捷運化桃園段地下化建設計畫」中規劃增設的永久車站,預計2033年通車,為滿足大眾運輸需求,行政院2020年8月3日核定「增設台鐵臨時站建設計畫」,期能於地下化工程完成前,先行提供旅運服務;平鎮車站設置兩座岸壁式月台,設計以輕、簡、透為原則,搭配通廊大面積採光玻璃,營造明亮候車空間。

陳世凱說,地方期盼有平鎮車站約20年,臨時站啟用希望讓居民不用再多等6年,「讓平鎮站的夢想提早實現」;臨時站工程須在不中斷鐵道營運的狀態下進行,除須保存文資遺址,還要裝設54公尺深橋墩,難度非常高;臨時站啟用後,可望大幅提升往返桃園、台北地區的便利性,也可協助每天人流甚至高達4.9萬的中壢站分流,減少民眾乘車擁擠等不便。
「跨站天橋目前尚未延伸到後站,仍與地主協調中,希望跨站天橋落地處能盡早取得同意。」張善政說,接駁交通除了2條「桃小巴」路線已規劃到前站,鄰近中豐路也有17條公車路線,步行就能轉乘;桃園捷運橘線的可行性報告年底前會報到中央,其中一站就在平鎮臨時站附近,未來可與平鎮地下車站連通,搭配平鎮高中南側農業區整體開發計畫,可望成為南桃園的行政與藝文中心,整體將成為平鎮區的發展亮點。
黃世杰表示,平鎮車站經中央政府與鄭文燦市府排除工程限制,確定新富一街站址,並推動臨時站先行,就是希望在鐵路地下化永久站完成前,先補上平鎮人的通勤缺口,平鎮臨時站計畫早在2020年獲行政院核定,相關工程2021年即陸續啟動,平鎮車站啟用是中央與地方合作累積的成果,不只是多了一座車站,更代表平鎮正式進入新的通勤時代,未來他也會與中央合作,讓平鎮繼續發展。
