President Lee Jae-myung emphasizes expanded support for ‘startups for everyone’… “We must boldly improve the business environment”

A big part of considering how to utilize additional tax revenue is drastic improvement in the business environment.

At the Cabinet meeting and emergency economic review meeting presided over at the Blue House on this day, President Lee said this to Prime Minister candidate Han Seong-sook, who is the Minister of SMEs and Startups, the ministry in charge of everyone's startups, saying, "There are more participants than expected, the enthusiasm is high, and there are many good items."

President Lee said, "Isn't the Republic of Korea's economy being reorganized around high-tech industries? The characteristic of high-tech industries is that employment (scale) is very small, so in the end, we have to focus on starting businesses."

“The way to increase actual work opportunities may not be that simple, but we must continue to increase the proportion of startups,” he said. “There are many reasons why the U.S. economy is improving, but the biggest one is that there are many startups in the high-tech industry.”

President Lee emphasized, “As we worry about how to utilize additional tax revenue, improving the environment for start-ups to secure growth potential is a big part of it,” adding, “We need to boldly increase support.”

Regarding the leak of the personal information of 5,000 successful applicants for Everyone's Startup, one candidate said, "There were some shortcomings this time. We need to more properly fill in the shortcomings in the operation-related areas and support the areas that need to be supported more boldly to actively promote start-up support."

He apologized for the personal information leak the day before and promised to closely examine the entire system construction and operation process.

In addition, President Lee said to one candidate, "It will be much easier to reorganize industries or expand startups as Prime Minister than as Minister of SMEs and Startups," and added, "Leaving the position of Minister of SMEs and Startups does not mean the responsibility disappears."

He added, “In any case, it would be better if entrepreneurship and employment issues were handled at the level of all ministries of the Republic of Korea, not at the level of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups,” adding, “I have high expectations.”
