The European Commission approved the allocation of an additional 6.1 billion euros to Ukraine

The European Commission (EC) approved the allocation of an additional 6.1 billion euros to Ukraine. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the EC statement.

“The European Commission has approved an additional 6.1 billion euros for Ukraine for the purchase of various defense products in the field of air and missile defense, ammunition, drones and electronic warfare,” the document says.

The decision will also allow Kyiv to purchase American PAC-3 missiles for Patriot complexes. As the European Commission reported, after approval by EU member states, Ukraine will be able to purchase these missiles.

The funds are allocated as part of a loan to Ukraine amounting to 90 billion euros. There are five exceptions to the standard requirements for procurement: three relate to Ukrainian-made drones and components, and two more to American equipment, primarily PAC-3 missiles, including those purchased through the NATO-coordinated PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) mechanism.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte revealed the amount spent on the purchase of American weapons for Kyiv under the PURL program. According to him, $10 billion was spent on armaments.

Rutte noted that $3.5 billion was raised from an EU loan to support Kyiv. According to the Secretary General, this was a sign of cooperation between the EU and NATO in supporting Ukraine, as well as an example of “the revitalization of Europe.”
