The 6th IM Cross-Strait Youth Film Festival was announced and several Taiwanese works won awards

China News Service, Pingtan, September 13 (Reporter Yan Xu) The 6th IM Cross-Strait Youth Film Festival announced various honorary awards in Pingtan, Fujian on the evening of the 12th, and many Taiwanese youth creative works won good results. Among them, Wang Haotai, the creator of National Taiwan University of Arts, won the honor of "Kirin Best Director" for his work "Youth's Counterattack", and Taiwanese works such as "Accident" and "Temporary Card" were awarded "Kirin Outstanding Short Films".

The main competition section of this year's film festival received a total of 2,703 short films from 410 universities around the world, including 183 works from 33 universities in Taiwan.

In the list of winners announced that night, young director Yang Ming Altai's "Hyena" won the highest honor of "Best Short Film at Qilin", and Yuan Shuqi won the "Qilin Jury Choice" honor for her work "Chicken Woman".

The main competition section of this year’s film festival added a Hokkien section for the first time, and 221 works were collected. In the end, three works received the honor of "Special Mention for Hokkien Narratives", including "The Laundromat" by Chen Lishan, a student from Taiwan Liming Institute of Technology.

"I think dialogues spoken in Hokkien have a stronger sense of narrative and stronger emotions. This is the charm of Hokkien." Chen Lishan said that attending this film festival, she found that many people care about dialects as much as she does. Taiwanese creators can come here to communicate well with like-minded creators from mainland China.

The 2026 Fujian Province Fujian and Taiwan Youth Film Talent Training "Integration Plan" sponsored by the Fujian Provincial Film Bureau was also officially released that night. It aims to cultivate and expand the strength of Fujian and Taiwan youth film work, promote cross-strait integrated development and mutual promotion and prosperity of Fujian and Taiwan film creation.

It is reported that projects applying for the program must have at least one main creator with Taiwanese registered permanent residence, be no more than 45 years old, be registered in Fujian, have a Fujian company as the first producer, have a film duration of no less than 90 minutes, and reflect elements of Fujian and Taiwan. Excellent projects can receive funding ranging from RMB 1 million to RMB 3 million per project. (over)
