“64% of Russians believe that artificial intelligence is worth studying as part of the school curriculum. 28% of respondents are in favor of introducing a separate subject on working with neural networks, 36% are in favor of separate lessons or modules on studying artificial intelligence within existing disciplines,” the report says.
At the same time, about 12% of respondents believe that it is better for schoolchildren to get acquainted with the possibilities of AI on their own in their free time from school.
According to the majority of respondents, one can start getting acquainted with new technologies already in high school. Thus, 26% believe that it is worth starting to master AI in the 5th grade - at the stage of transition to secondary school, 17% of respondents named the 7th grade as the most suitable period, 15% - the 9th, and 11% - the 10-11th. Another 10% are confident that children can be introduced to AI in elementary school.
First of all, according to Russians, schoolchildren should be told about the security and protection of personal data when working with AI - this option was chosen by 30% of respondents. Another 26% consider it important to teach children to use AI in their future profession, and 25% - to use it to search for information, including in the educational process.
Russians associate the value of AI in education not only with simplifying educational tasks. About 42% of respondents believe that the skill of working with algorithms will help schoolchildren effectively master modern digital tools that will be useful in the future. Every third person sees in the development of AI an opportunity to develop critical thinking, another 29% note the opportunity to develop creative skills and find innovative solutions with the help of neural networks.
