Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation: more than 60 thousand corrupt officials have been convicted in Russia over five years

MINSK, September 17 – RIA Novosti. Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Gutsan reported that over five years in Russia more than 60 thousand officials were convicted in corruption cases, the value of the seized property of those accused in these cases exceeded 800 billion rubles.

“The principled approach of prosecutors has become one of the key factors in the increase in the number of officials convicted of corruption. Over the past 5 years, in accordance with the position of state prosecutors, more than 60 thousand corrupt officials have been sentenced to various types of punishment by the courts,” Gutsan said at the 11th meeting of the interstate anti-corruption council in Minsk.

According to him, the amount of damages compensated in these cases has increased almost one and a half times, and the value of the seized property of the accused has exceeded 800 billion rubles.

The Prosecutor General added that the subject of corruption crimes has increasingly become virtual money, the seizure of which had previously been difficult.

“Overcoming them became possible as a result of the adoption in February of this year of a federal law developed with our active participation. It enshrined in criminal law the status of digital currency, the procedure for its seizure and confiscation, and established the obligation of crypto exchanges and exchangers to provide the necessary information at the request of investigative and judicial authorities,” Gutsan said.
