為了儘快恢復湖面，挖土機的長臂一次次探入湖中，撈起盤結成片的水芙蓉；岸邊工作人員則拿著落葉釘耙，將漂散的植株一一聚攏。歷經4個工作日、約35人次接力清理，原本密布湖面的綠色逐漸退去，開闊的水面終於重現眼前，連日來懸著的心，也跟著放了下來。

打撈上岸的水芙蓉就地平鋪在岸邊草坪曝曬，除可抑制雜草生長之外，待微生物逐漸分解後，也能成為富含有機質的腐葉土，為土壤增添養分。湖面恢復開闊後，鏡心湖畔又能看見鳥兒自在活動的身影。其中，臺灣特有種烏頭翁經常穿梭於湖畔枝頭。
