Shortlisted for the Life Style Program Award, "Riptide Taiwan" is directed by Xue Changhui. It stars Brazilian extreme sports adventurer Pedro Oliva, tribesmen, and canoeists. It records the scenery of mountains and seas such as Xiuguluan Creek, Linong Creek, and Sun Moon Lake. It is the first cross-border cooperation series between Taiwan and Brazil. "Ripwater Taiwan" competing for the "Lifestyle Program Award" is directed by Xue Changhui. It invites Brazilian extreme sports adventurer Pedro Oliva to work with local tribesmen and light boat experts to visit the magnificent waters such as Xiuguluan Creek, Linong Creek and Sun Moon Lake, creating a milestone for the first cross-border co-production between Taiwan and Brazil. "Talagay I'm the Strongest!" advanced to the "Children's Program Award"! ", co-hosted by Atayal youth Lin Tingli and Dai Yasheng. The two went deep into native tribes across Taiwan to discover young athletes who loved sports and recorded their sweaty training routines. The Atayal language "talagay" means admiration and amazement. The program hopes to record the innocent and confident smiles of children and inject enthusiasm and vitality into children's sports in Taiwan through the exploration and promotion of various sports.
The humanistic documentary program "Musasuhis Centenary Road", which goes deep into the mountains, uses ancient mountain trails as a medium. "musasuhis" means "travel" in the Bunun language. The program invites experts and scholars to serve as guides to lead the audience on a walk along the ancient trails. While recording the rich ecological and historical relics, the program regains the memory and cultural heritage of the ethnic group sleeping deep in the mountains and forests. Sound designer Lin Chuankai used a highly layered environmental soundscape to meticulously reproduce the sounds of wind and footsteps in the mountains and forests, making the audience feel as if they were in the real world. He was successfully shortlisted for the "Program Sound Design Award".
The fantasy animated series "Hata La Another World", which received 4 nominations on the shortlist, continues the grand world view of "The Adventures of Tree People" in 2019. Through the adventure of a brother and sister embarking on a journey to find their father, they build a strange country between orcs, tree people and monsters. This work is the first animated series in the world to be "dubbed entirely in Atayal". From the script conception, world view structure to character setting, all are rigorously studied by cultural consultants. It perfectly translates ancient myths into contemporary fantasy epics and won the "Animation Program Award" and "Program Innovation Award" in one fell swoop. On the technical level, the team cleverly integrated traditional tattoos and ancestral totems into the character design, meticulously depicted tribal architecture, and intertwined ethnic chanting, harmonica, and natural environmental sounds to create a pure and shocking original aesthetic.
