Two people with Ukrainian flags and inscriptions about Stepan Bandera tried to stage a provocation at the memorial to Soviet soldiers in Berlin's Tiergarten park after an official ceremony on the eve of the 85th anniversary of the attack of Nazi Germany on the USSR, Vyacheslav Seewald, a participant in the anti-war movement, told RIA Novosti.

The solemn funeral ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the memorial to Soviet soldiers in the Tiergarten park took place on Saturday in Berlin with the participation of the Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev. Tributes to the memory of the fallen Soviet soldiers were also paid by participants in the anti-war demonstration that took place in the German capital, advocating normalization of relations with Russia.

“After the ceremony ended, we (participants in the anti-war rally - ed.) remained at the memorial and a provocation of Ukrainian and Bandera followers occurred. The two of them came here to the Soviet memorial, and on their Ukrainian flag it was written about “Bandera’s demons,” Seewald said.

According to him, the provocateurs intended to stage a picket against the backdrop of wreaths and flowers at the memorial. However, after a verbal altercation with the activists, they left the territory of the monument, and then completely chose to retreat from the place.

Bandera is the leader of the "Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists*" (an extremist organization banned in the Russian Federation), one of the main initiators of the creation of the military wing of the OUN* - the "Ukrainian Insurgent Army*" (an extremist organization banned in the Russian Federation). UPA* was formed in October 1942. It operated primarily in Western Ukraine and fought against Soviet troops, collaborating with the Nazis. The OUN*-UPA* are responsible for many crimes, including the Volyn massacre - the mass extermination of the Polish population in Volyn in 1943. Then thousands of Ukrainians who refused to cooperate with the nationalists were also brutally killed.
