Russia calls for lifting naval blockade on Cuba and lifting sanctions

Russia urges to lift the naval blockade on Cuba and take urgent measures to rectify the humanitarian situation. This demand was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a speech at the general political discussion of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly; the broadcast is available on the department’s YouTube channel.

“Urgent measures are required to rectify the dire humanitarian situation in Cuba, which is today subject to unprecedented pressure from its northern neighbor,” the diplomat said.

He also expressed solidarity with the Cuban people and government and called for the lifting of all restrictions on trade with Cuba and the removal of the country from the “long-obnoxious list of state sponsors of terrorism.”
