Hsinchu County promotes sports equality plan for women with disabilities

To encourage women with disabilities to also love sports, the Hsinchu County Government collaborates across bureaus and departments. The North District Women's Welfare Service Center handles the "From Heartbeat to Exercise ~ Service Program for Women with Disabilities". It combines the resources of the Education Bureau, Zhubei National Sports Center and the Elderly Long-term Care Office to plan suitable exercise courses, so that these female villagers can gradually establish exercise habits, improve their self-confidence, increase opportunities to communicate with others, participate in community activities, and more importantly, achieve health equality.

The aforementioned policy of the county government focuses on establishing gender equality and diversity and inclusion, and integrates resources through cross-bureau cooperation to help women with disabilities overcome environmental and information constraints, enjoy equal opportunities to participate in sports, and create a more friendly and inclusive public service environment.

County Social Affairs Director Chen Xinyi said that when women with disabilities participate in sports, they often reduce their willingness to go out and participate in sports due to environmental conditions, stereotypes, lack of access to information, and insufficient support systems. Last year, they cooperated with the then Transport and Tourism Department to organize the "Let the Disabled Speak ~ Action Stories of Women with Disabilities", through small trips and life experience sharing, to accumulate the confidence and experience of women with disabilities in going out.

This year, we will cooperate with the Zhubei National Sports Center again. Professional coaches will plan warm-up and strength training courses based on the physical conditions of women with disabilities. We hope to help women with disabilities establish regular exercise habits and enhance their body identity and self-confidence. This will further serve as an important reference for the future development of friendly sports services for women with disabilities, so that exercise will not be restricted by gender or barriers. The county government will review and improve the public sports environment and service measures so that more women with disabilities can exercise safely and happily.
