The armed forces of Great Britain, the United States and Norway conducted exercises on the island of Jan Mayen

The armed forces of Britain, the United States and Norway conducted exercises on the island of Jan Mayen as part of NATO's Arctic Sentinel mission, the British Ministry of Defense said.

“UK forces deployed to the remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen alongside allies from Norway and the US... The trilateral operation was part of the Arctic Sentinel programme,” the defense ministry said in a statement.

The Operation Atlantic City exercise took place from August 26 to September 4. During the exercise, the three countries' Air Force, Navy, Special Forces and Marine Corps used a variety of sensor and communications systems to coordinate actions in the region.

The Norwegian island of Jan Mayen is located in the Norwegian Sea about 1000 kilometers from mainland Norway. The borders of Russia are approximately 1,500 kilometers from the island.

The exercise involving Norway's NATO allies is being held in Jan Mayen for the second year in a row. The exercise owes its name to the American base Atlantic City, which existed on the island during World War II.
