Search for sabotage suspect: Police are looking for a bicycle

The search for the suspect for the sabotage of the power grid is in full swing: The police launched a major operation in the Hambacher Forest - and according to a new search call, the 48-year-old wanted could also be on the run on a bicycle. The Brandenburg police said they were looking for a Trenoli brand bike with a frame height of 56 centimeters and attached a photo of a black bike to their message. It is the “Tazio Sportivo M” model.

The investigators published a search call on Saturday with two photos of the suspect from Gevelsberg in the southern Ruhr area. “The search is ongoing,” said a spokesman for the Cologne police in charge this morning. “We have received tips and we are following them up.”

The attempted acts of sabotage were concentrated in North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg and most recently Saxony. Brown coal is still mined and converted into electricity in all three federal states. On Friday, officers found explosives in the suspect's Gevelsberg apartment. Later, a special operations team stormed a truck at the Hambach opencast mine in Niederzier that had apparently been converted into a mobile home. But the person they were looking for was not found.
