The Presnensky court extended the arrest of the former head of the DIA Andrei Melnikov

The Presnensky District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of the former head of the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) Andrei Melnikov, Kommersant reports.

It is noted that the defendant admitted guilt in theft and entered into a pre-trial agreement on cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office, which allows the criminal case to be separated into a special proceeding and the process to be carried out in a special order.

At the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, Melnikov will remain in custody until February 26, 2027. The state prosecution believes that the former head of the DIA may hide abroad or put pressure on witnesses. The defense, in turn, insisted on a milder measure of restraint, noting that Melnikov had the opportunity to leave the country, but “he connects his life only with Russia.”
