The Jilin Provincial Symphony Orchestra decoded ancient Chinese myths and legends by performing the five major movements of "Opening the Sky", "Moving Mountains", "Flying to the Moon", "Reclamation" and "Chasing the Sun".

In recent years, "national trend" music has become popular. Music creators draw inspiration from traditional Chinese culture, myths and legends, and create new works that have both a sense of the times and a sense of history, which resonates with music lovers.

He Yuzhen, the conductor of this performance, introduced that "Chinese Legend" is a project funded by the National Arts Fund, and each movement is presented in the innovative form of "folk music double solo + symphony orchestra concerto".

At the scene, traditional Chinese musical instruments such as suona, bamboo flute, banhu, guzheng, and pipa complemented an orchestra composed of violins, harps, trombones, etc., creating a musical aesthetic that combines the realms of immortality and mortals, combining hardness and softness.

It is understood that "Chinese Legend" was composed by musician Zhang Xiaofu. The work incorporates mythical images such as Pangu, Yu Gong, Chang'e, Jingwei, and Kuafu. While unfolding the mythical narrative, it also uses music to explain the spiritual world behind it.

The first movement "The Opening of the Sky" is divided into four acts: "Chaos·Darkness", "Awakening·Creation", "Tripod Sky·Earth" and "Thousands·Weather", with suona, bamboo flute, xun as the main instrument, along with big drum, row drum and other percussion, it is like an epic rhapsody about the creation of the ancient world.

In order to show Yu Gong's perseverance and self-improvement spirit, "Moving Mountains" uses alto banhu and large sanxian dialogue orchestra to alternately promote the two themes of "Foolish Old Man" and "Big Mountain". "Flying to the Moon" tells the romantic fantasy of the bond between immortals and mortals, connecting the two myths and legends of "Chang'e Flying to the Moon" and "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl", using bamboo flutes and xuns to outline the cold shadow of the Moon Palace, and using the broken jade sound of the pipa to express parting; "Reclamation" integrates the two main lines of "Jingwei's reclamation of the sea" and "Dayu's flood control" into the same movement; "Chasing the Sun" pays tribute to Kuafu's spirit of never turning back and moving forward.
