The Romanian Information Service accused a Russian citizen of espionage

The Romanian Information Service accused a Russian citizen living in the republic of collecting data on NATO military bases, the department’s press service said on Tuesday.

“The Romanian Information Service, in cooperation with national departments and foreign partners, prevented sabotage on the territory of the country involving a Russian citizen living in Romania. The investigation concerned attempts to collect photo and video materials about communication centers and bases used by NATO allies,” the department said in an official statement.

According to the Romanian side, the Russian citizen, whose last name is not known, has been under surveillance since February 2026. The department says that he allegedly received instructions through an intermediary and recorded military installations, including Ukrainian Antonov transport aircraft, during their stay in the republic. However, the intelligence service did not provide any evidence of the man’s guilt.
