Sporting Lisbon begins its Champions League campaign with a win over Galatasaray

Sporting Lisbon of Portugal started its campaign in the new version of the Champions League in the best possible way, following its valuable and well-deserved 3-1 victory over its Turkish guest, Galatasaray, on Wednesday, in the first round of the league stage of the continental competition.

Galatasaray advanced with a goal through friendly fire, after Goncalo Inacio, the Sporting Lisbon player, scored an error in his own goal for the Turkish team in the fifth minute.

Sporting Lisbon quickly regained its balance again, as Gini Katamu scored the equalizer for the Portuguese team in the 27th minute, while his teammates Luis Suarez and Rodrigo Zalazar added the second and third goals in the 57th and 63rd minutes, from a penalty kick and 63, respectively.

With this result, Sporting Lisbon won the first three points in its tournament this season, while Galatasaray remained without any points.

Lisbon will host France's Lens in the next round next month, while Galatasaray will meet its Spanish guest Barcelona in a heavy-caliber confrontation.

The French team, Paris Saint-Germain, launched its journey to defend its Champions League title, with a crushing victory over Slovan Bratislava, Slovakia, with a score of 6/1 on Wednesday in the first round of the tournament.

Paris Saint-Germain's goals were scored by Ousmane Dembélé (two goals) in the 17th and 23rd minutes, the Spaniard Ferran Torres scored three goals (a hat-trick) in the 31st, 47th and 57th minutes, and his compatriot Fabian Ruiz in the 87th minute, while Gambian Suleiman Kamara scored Bratislava's only goal in the 58th minute.

Saint-Germain will play a strong match in the next round against Manchester City at the latter’s stadium in the second round, on Wednesday, October 14, while Bratislava will face German Stuttgart on the same day.

Arsenal continued its perfect start to the current season, achieving a valuable victory outside its stadium at the expense of its Italian host Napoli 1-0 in the first round of the Champions League.

The only goal was scored by Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard, the team's leader, in the 75th minute.

Arsenal achieved its fifth victory in all tournaments since the beginning of the season, after winning the Charity Shield match against Manchester City, and was victorious in its three matches in the English Premier League.

The runner-up of the Champions League in the last edition launched the current season of the continental competition, while Napoli suffered its first loss at home.

Arsenal will host Lille in the second round, while Napoli will host Villarreal, Spain, on October 13.
