7 dead, 17 injured in explosion in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

About 20 people were killed or injured in an explosion that occurred in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

According to public security authorities in Xing'an County, Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on the 11th (local time), 7 people were killed and 17 were injured in an explosion that occurred in the area at around 1:40 a.m. that day.

According to the initial investigation, the authorities concluded that the explosion was not caused by a gas piping problem and are continuing to investigate the cause.

Citing eyewitness accounts posted online, local media outlet Cao Shimbun said, “30 seconds after the (first) explosion, there was a second, more serious explosion,” and that the doors and window frames of nearby buildings were destroyed and a power outage occurred.
