3 people dead and 1 missing in Taiwan due to heavy rain caused by Typhoon No. 7

Taiwan's fire department announced on the 27th that three people were killed and one person is missing due to heavy rains caused by Typhoon No. 7. In Hualien Prefecture in the east, there is a risk that dammed lakes in the mountains could overflow, and precautions have been strengthened.

As Typhoon No. 7 approached and passed around Okinawa, many parts of Taiwan were hit with heavy rain starting around the 24th. According to statistics from the Central Meteorological Office (equivalent to the Japan Meteorological Agency), from midnight on the 25th to 2pm on the 27th, 931 mm was observed in Pingtung County in the south, and 420 mm in Shiding District, New Taipei City in the north. As of the 26th, flooding had occurred in 522 locations across Taiwan. In Taipei, heavy rain fell, with 95mm of rain recorded in three hours in Wenshan District, causing flooding and landslides.

According to Taiwanese media, the body of a woman was found trapped in a flooded car in Hsinchu County in the north on the 26th.

In Wanrong Township, Hualien Prefecture (a township is equivalent to a town or village), a dammed lake that had previously formed in a river in the mountains has been flooded with water from the surrounding area. On the 27th, authorities decided to forcibly evacuate about 200 people living downstream, fearing that the water could overflow within 24 hours. In the nearby Guangfu township of the same prefecture, 24 people were killed in September 2025 due to Typhoon No. 18, when a dammed lake in the mountains overflowed and a debris flow flowed into downstream villages.
