中新网厦门10月3日电 (记者 李思源)“一到厦门大学就有宾至如归的感觉,没想到自己会在这里扎根,不是短短两年,而是度过余生。”厦门大学美籍教授潘维廉颇为感慨。3日,厦门大学海外教育暨国际中文教育70周年高质量发展大会在该校翔安校区举行。作为校友代表,潘维廉上台致辞:“我亲眼见证中国向世界广泛学习。但真正的教育,从来都是双向奔赴,世界同样有许多东西可以向中国学习。”
1988年,潘维廉携家人从美国来到专门开展对外汉语教育的厦门大学学习汉语、了解中国文化。“厦门大学是20世纪80年代中国首个可以接收外国人来华学习汉语的大学。”通过学习汉语,潘维廉爱上了厦门、爱上了中国,并留在厦门大学管理学院任教。1992年,他获得中华人民共和国外国人永久居留证,成为福建省第一个拿到“中国绿卡”的外国人。“祝贺学院,也祝贺我自己,在这里度过人生的第七个十年。回望过往,唯一的遗憾是没能更早来到这里。”
当天大会以“嘉庚文脉润四海,文明互鉴耀五洲”为主题,回顾七十年办学历程,赓续育人初心,汇聚海内外智慧,共商新时代海外教育与国际中文教育高质量发展大计。
“1956年,紧扣国家‘面向东南亚华侨’的办学方向,厦门大学创办华侨函授部,成为国内最早专门从事海外华文教育的高校之一。”厦门大学校长、中国科学院院士胡文平在致辞中表示,七十载薪火相传,国际中文教育学院/海外教育学院逐步形成了汉语国际教育与文化传播并重、学历教育与非学历教育兼备、面授教学与远程教育并举、理论研究与应用开发并行的鲜明格局,走出了一条独具特色的海外教育发展之路。
教育部中外语言交流合作中心党委书记、主任郁云峰在致辞中充分肯定厦门大学为增强中国语言文化全球影响力、促进中外文明交流互鉴作出的重要贡献。他希望厦大发挥学科优势和侨乡地缘优势,在人才培养、学术研究、国际合作、实践创新、数智变革等方面持续深耕。
英国纽卡斯尔大学常务副校长奈杰尔·哈克尼斯回顾了纽卡斯尔大学与厦门大学共建孔子学院的合作历程,表示两校在人才培养、国际合作与跨文化理解上目标一致,通过中文课程、中小学推广活动、学术会议和文化工作坊搭建对话平台,增进不同语言与文化背景人群之间的理解。他期待进一步深化伙伴关系,拓展教育、科研与人文交流合作。
厦门大学国际中文教育学院/海外教育学院院长陈志伟介绍了学院四个发展阶段、人才培养、学科建设、海外合作与文明交流互鉴等方面的成果。从跨海函授到全球课堂,厦大海外教育因侨而生、因中文而兴、因文明互鉴而远,形成国际中文教育、孔子学院建设、南方基地三位一体的协同格局。
大会还举行捐赠证书颁发仪式,厦门大学副校长史大林为马来西亚大智慧教育基金会主席王培坤颁发捐赠证书。基金会继2025年捐赠500万元人民币设立马来西亚华文教师奖学金后,2026年再增资500万元人民币,充实马来西亚华文教师专项基金,支持马来西亚籍学生来校学习、毕业后回国任教,为海外华文师资培养汇聚社会力量。
在海外新增教学点/教育实践基地启动仪式上,来自印度尼西亚、菲律宾、泰国、马来西亚、吉尔吉斯斯坦的合作单位代表与陈志伟共同启动新一批海外教学点/教育实践基地,进一步拓展海外办学网络,为国际中文教育对接当地教育与社会发展需求提供新的实践平台。大会还举行了学科丛书首发仪式,作者代表共同发布九部学术著作和教材。
