Farah Youssef in Without Restrictions: The Constitutional Declaration grants almost divine powers to the transitional president

Farah Youssef, the Syrian researcher and political activist, said that the current transitional authority in Syria has structural problems, including the constitutional declaration that grants its president semi-divine powers, in addition to the formation of a transitional council that was appointed and not elected.

Farah Youssef believes that the presence of an opposition inside Syria requires the establishment of institutions to play that role, which is not yet available, noting that a new law for parties has not yet been enacted in Syria or allowing the freedom to form such parties.

Regarding the international support enjoyed by the current transitional government in Syria, the Syrian researcher and political activist expressed her regret regarding the trends of the international community, which focuses most of its attention on returning Syrian refugees abroad to their country, regardless of the repercussions that may ensue. Farah Youssef also hinted that there are certain arrangements related to Israel that push the international community, especially the United States of America, to support the current authority, according to her.

Regarding the situation of women in Syria, Farah Youssef believes that women’s freedom, rights, and political participation are linked to the current ruling system and cannot be separated from the deficient rights of the Syrian citizen, in her opinion.
