Shen Boyang criticizes the KMT for not participating in the National Security Council: Taiwan’s defense needs are the key

The U.S.-China "Trump-Xi meeting" will be held on the 24th Eastern Time, and arms purchases to Taiwan may become a bargaining chip. The Kuomintang Cultural Affairs Bureau and Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan called on the Presidential Office to convene a national security meeting to deal with issues that may involve Taiwan during the talks. Shen Boyang, a candidate for Taipei mayor of the Democratic Progressive Party, said today that they (the Kuomintang) really like to convene national security meetings, and they have held them several times but never come.

Shen Boyang was interviewed this morning and said that they (referring to the Kuomintang) really like to hold national security meetings, and they did not come when there were several meetings to be held. He believes that in the entire national defense, the most important thing is how Taiwan wants to buy it, because when various regulations were proposed before, we had to put forward our needs in Taiwan. He said that in this long-term plan or special regulations, Taiwan's national defense has actually taken stock of a lot, whether it is drones, unmanned boats, air defense, AI integration, chain of command needs, etc., there are many, many needs. As for which countries will meet these needs, it is actually just a matter of purchase. It may be the United States or a country other than the United States.

He said, how can it be sold in these countries? How to pass it through their own domestic parliament? How do they discuss this within their own Department of Defense? That is a matter of domestic politics in other countries. He believes that the blue camp has been confusing the discussion of the other party's domestic politics with how the other party wants to sell and how we want to buy, so this kind of weird discussion will appear. If we really want to discuss it, we can discuss it in the Legislative Yuan or the National Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee. This is called a normal discussion. There is no need to confuse the domestic politics of other countries and other countries with Taiwan's domestic needs.
