Food safety issues were reported at a turkey restaurant in Section 4, Wenxin Road, Beitun District, Taichung City. Some people reported that their 3-year-old daughter developed vomiting and abdominal pain after eating turkey rice, braised tofu and braised eggs. She vomited more than 10 times in the early morning and was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment. After receiving the report, the Taichung City Food and Drug Safety Department launched an investigation. Currently, it is preliminary known that 8 people are unwell, and multiple hygiene deficiencies in the store have been found. The operator has been asked to close the business immediately to make improvements.

A citizen recently posted on the Internet that her daughter went to the restaurant for dinner on September 30 and ate turkey rice, braised tofu and braised eggs. She started vomiting continuously at 3 a.m., and she vomited more than 10 times at one time. Her face was pale. She was rushed to the emergency room of the hospital. The examination found that her white blood cell index rose to more than 10,000. She received intravenous drip and antiemetics and returned home. However, she continued to vomit and had abdominal cramps, and sought medical treatment again.

After receiving the report, the Food Safety Department went to the store to inspect and collect relevant specimens for examination. It also tracked down other diners. At present, it is preliminary known that a total of 8 people have symptoms of discomfort. During the inspection, it was found that the temperature of the refrigerator in the store did not meet the regulations, some ingredients were not stored off the floor, and relevant information about the annual physical examination of employees was not produced. The business has been required to immediately suspend operations for improvement. If the subsequent re-inspection fails, penalties will be imposed in accordance with the law.

The Food Safety Department stated that the relevant food and samples have been sent for inspection, and the test results will take about 2 weeks at the fastest. If pathogenic bacteria are subsequently detected, they will be dealt with in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Hygiene Management Act. Violations may be punished with a fine of more than 60,000 yuan and not more than 200 million yuan; if the same pathogenic bacteria are detected in the human body samples and food waste samples, they will be transferred to judicial authorities for investigation in accordance with Article 49 of the Food Safety Law.
