According to the legal community on the 10th, the Ulsan District Court's 11th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Park Dong-gyu) sentenced Mr. A, in his 50s, to eight years in prison, who was recently handed over to trial on charges of attempted murder and attempted aggravated robbery.

In April of this year, Mr. A fell on the ground and fought when Police Officer B, who had been chasing him, attacked him from behind in an empty lot in Nam-gu, Ulsan during the day.

During this process, the holster fixing device attached to Police Officer B's vest was broken and the pistol fell to the floor.

Mr. A, who had a criminal record, thought that he would be severely punished if he was caught like this, so he grabbed the dropped pistol and pulled the trigger towards police officer B who was 3 meters away.

However, the bullet was not fired as the trigger was engaged in the misfire prevention device.

Police officer B did not miss that moment and climbed on top of Mr. A, laid him down, then grabbed his wrist holding the pistol and pressed it to the floor to prevent him from moving.

Mr. A violently resisted and did not let go of the pistol, but he was completely subdued when other police officers who arrived at the scene joined him about 10 minutes later.

Previously, Mr. A was chased after committing a robbery in broad daylight the day before.

At that time, when a woman opened the driver's door of a parked car and got in, Mr. A immediately opened the passenger's door on the other side, got in, pointed a weapon at her, and made her drive to a deserted place.

Then, when they reached the parking lot of a lodging establishment, they tried to tie the woman's hands and legs.

However, when the woman resisted by pressing the horn of the car several times and screaming, Mr. A hit the woman's face, imprisoned her, tried to take her money, and then ran away.

The police identified the vehicle in which Mr. A fled and issued a wanted search, and when it was confirmed that the vehicle was captured in the wanted vehicle search system (WASS), police officer B chased Mr. A and ended up in a physical fight.

Mr. A committed this crime about 3 months after being released from prison after serving a prison sentence for a gambling crime, and Police Officer B suffered a dislocated injury for 2 weeks.

The court said, “The police officer almost lost his life due to the defendant’s crime,” and “Even in court, he shows no remorse and is making unreasonable excuses, such as saying he picked up a pistol to commit suicide.”

He went on to explain the reason for sentencing, saying, "The defendant has a long history of punishment, including robbery, sexual offenses, and violations of road traffic laws, but he committed the crime again during the period of repeated offenses, and his awareness of law compliance is significantly weak," and "severe punishment is necessary."
