Elista celebrates the 80th anniversary of the appearance of Christ the Savior to believers in 1946

In the city of Elista, Kalmykia, these days they celebrate the 80th anniversary of the appearance of Christ the Savior to the believers of the city. According to the documented legend, on September 11, 1946, 26 people, together with a cleric, simultaneously saw the image of Jesus in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.

“Without exaggeration I will say that this miracle is a symbol of the fact that our country is blessed. As in the anthem - “Russia is our sacred power,” said the head of the republic, Batu Khasikov.

As Archbishop Justinian of Elista and Kalmyk clarified, decades ago believers noticed an epitrachelion on Jesus over his clothes. After this, an icon was painted to record what he saw. By Easter 1947, the image was delivered to Elista.

“For Kalmykia, this miracle is an indisputable fact, but in neighboring regions they have not even heard about it due to the distance of Elista from other cities,” said the clergyman.
