Earlier, the Guardian newspaper reported that the Japanese authorities protested due to the fact that the Kuril Islands are depicted as part of Russia on the new world map adopted by the United Nations. In Tokyo they demanded that the image be corrected.

“It’s time for us, for the sake of strengthening our military security, to declare the Sea of ​​Okhotsk internal waters of Russia: not an exclusive economic zone, but an internal sea,” Mironov said.

According to him, the militarization of Japan, its territorial claims and the desire to revise the results of World War II raise serious concerns.

“The status of internal waters will allow us to prohibit the presence of any foreign vessels and ships in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk, as well as the flight of any foreign aircraft over the waters,” the party leader added.

Mironov noted that geographical conditions fully allow us to consider the sea as internal waters of Russia.

“The Sea of ​​Okhotsk is surrounded on all sides by Russian territories: the Kamchatka Peninsula, Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and continental Russia - it is de facto an internal sea of ​​Russia, only a small part of its perimeter borders the Japanese island of Hokkaido,” he said.

According to the politician, Russia has everything it needs to close the sea from foreign ships and intelligence from unfriendly states, and this step will radically increase Russia's military defensive capabilities and will be the best response to the militarization of Japan and Tokyo's revanchist rhetoric.
