AI has helped eliminate 82 thousand defects on the roads of the Moscow region since the beginning of 2026

Since the beginning of 2026, 82 thousand pavement defects identified using artificial intelligence (AI) have been eliminated on regional roads in the Moscow region. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Moscow Region on the Telegram channel.

AI was first used in the region for pothole repairs this year. Special vehicles and road equipment inspect the surface, record damage, after which specialists eliminate the identified defects.

According to the Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Moscow Region, Marat Sibatulin, artificial intelligence makes it possible to inspect the road network four times faster than with manual inspection. “This makes it possible to quickly identify problem areas and plan repair work. This year, already in the summer, we recorded a decrease in the number of requests from residents by more than half compared to the spring period,” Sibatulin noted.

Currently, experts are training the system to recognize not only road surface defects, but also damaged signs and markings, litter, illegal advertising, faulty lighting and damage at bus stops. According to the department, this will reduce response time to violations and increase the safety of the road network for residents of the region.
