Archaeologists found almonds and grapes during excavations in the Moscow Kremlin.

The finds were made during the study of the remains of the estate of Vladimir Andreevich Serpukhovsky in the Great Kremlin Park.

MOSCOW, September 12 – RIA Novosti. Archaeologists during excavations in the Moscow Kremlin found delicacies of the 14th century - almonds and grapes, Nikolai Makarov, acting director of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He recalled that scientists examined in the Great Kremlin Park the remains of the estate of Vladimir Andreevich Serpukhovsky, one of the main heroes of the Battle of Kulikovo. “We found a huge amount of grain that was stored on the estate, grains of almonds and grapes, these are the first finds of almonds - this is evidence of an aristocratic diet, with such delicacies,” Makarov said.

Earlier, restorers opened the sarcophagus of St. Prince Dmitry Donskoy in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. Research has confirmed that the remains belong to him. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' performed a prayer service at the relics of the holy prince on August 18, and Russian President Vladimir Putin prayed at the Archangel Cathedral on August 20. As the Russian Orthodox Church reported, several fragments of the saint’s relics were taken from those freely located in the sarcophagus and placed in arks for the worship of believers.

Holy Prince Dmitry Donskoy (1350-1389) devoted himself to the cause of unifying Russian lands and liberation from the Tatar-Mongol yoke. On September 8, 1380, he won a battle with the troops of Khan Mamai on the Kulikovo field between the Nepryadva and Don rivers (the territory of the modern Tula region). After her, Prince Dmitry began to be called Donskoy.
