Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 12th, "Our party will follow the path of grand unification by embracing progressive parties and individuals, moderate individuals, and conservative, reasonable and capable people."
Representative Kim attended the 'Open Day' event of the Pyeongtaek Regional Committee on this day and said, "The Democratic Party will follow the path of the eldest structural majority progressive party that embraces conservatives and centrists. We will stand in solidarity and dialogue with progressive reform parties and centrist conservative forces."
He said, “We will stand in solidarity with political parties such as the Social Democratic Party, the Progressive Party, and the Basic Income Party, and we will discuss and decide with the Fatherland Innovation Party whether to follow the path of unity or solidarity.” He added, “Whether it is unity or solidarity, the main principle is competitiveness.”
He continued, "The era of dividing over certain shares is over. That's old politics," and emphasized, "Even if our party and other parties form an alliance, they will be unified through competitiveness, and within the party, they will become candidates through competitiveness."
Pyeongtaek-eul is where Democratic Party's Pyeongtaek-eul regional committee chairman Kim Yong-nam and Innovation Party's Innovation Policy Research Institute director Cho Kuk competed in the June 3 re-election, and as the democratic and progressive camps were divided, People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Yu-dong was elected.
On this day, Representative Kim also expressed his support for Chairman Kim, who competed with Director Cho in the last election. Immediately after his inauguration as leader, Chairman Kim was appointed as the standing vice-chairman of the party policy committee.
Representative Kim emphasized, “The idea of the government and the party is not to use those who were in the conservative camp during the last presidential election and end it, but to expand the horizon of politics by recruiting talented and good people,” and added, “The idea is to create a large field that encompasses progressive reform and moderate conservatives.”
He added, “In that respect, we expect and help people like Chairman Kim to play a bigger role in our politics, our party, and our government,” and added, “I expect that Chairman Kim will pursue politics that understands growth and community consideration in Pyeongtaek.”
At the event, Rep. Song Young-gil of the same party mentioned Director Cho, who raised 'Zero People Power' as a slogan during the last election, and criticized, "Suddenly, there was someone who came to say that it was a difficult place for the Democratic Party and wanted to create 'Zero National Power,' but he came out and created 'Zero Democratic Party.'"
He also said, "The party and Lee Jae-myung's government are facing some difficulties in many ways right now," and in relation to the ABC theory of writer Yoo Si-min, a pan-ruling commentator, he emphasized, "At times like this, we need to show what the real core support base is and what the real B group is."
In response, the Innovation Party cited Representative Kim's remarks and objected, saying, "This is a behavior that defines the Woo Party as a force trying to gain shares and a virtual enemy."
Innovation Party spokesperson Lim Myeong-hee said in a commentary, "No citizen can sympathize with the political maneuvering to divert attention to the outside world due to the leadership crisis within the party," and criticized, "The Democratic Party's claim of 'solidarity and unity centered on competitiveness' is nothing more than a show of power and a play on words," adding, "The attitude that there is no solidarity if the number of seats and approval ratings of the Democratic Party falls short is a typical aspect of low-income politics."
Spokesperson Lim also criticized Rep. Song, saying, “The intention is to distinguish between ‘real and fake’ and take sides openly.”
