Battle over selection of national medical school… Min “Attracting the Big 5 branch level to Mokpo”

Representative Park Jie-won (Haenam, Wando, Jindo) of the Democratic Party of Korea requested Jeonnam Gwangju Mayor Min Hyeong-bae to declare the decision invalid, claiming that the selection of national medical school candidates was unfair, but Mayor Min said he would respect the court's decision.

Representative Park said on his Facebook page on the 12th, "I had a meeting with Unified Mayor Min Hyeong-bae on various issues, including Jeonnam Medical School, for 1 hour and 10 minutes before the start of the event in a separate room at the Jindo Battle of Myeongryang Festival the afternoon before."

Rep. Park said, “I requested a declaration of invalidation of the Suncheon-daero decision, which violated justice and fairness.”

Regarding the review results, he said, "We made it clear that reviewing with illegal documents cannot be accepted as unfair review."

He continued, "Mayor Min said that he misunderstood the facts and that he would confirm Suncheon National University as soon as the court's injunction decision is made. As an alternative, he said that he would attract a better medical school hospital than Suncheon National University or a branch of one of Seoul's Big 5 hospitals to Mokpo, and that he was actually contacting several hospitals."

Rep. Park added, “In conclusion, the meeting with me failed and (Mayor Min) had a very stubborn attitude,” adding, “I will share this with Mokpo Mayor Kang Seong-hwi and Rep. Kim Won-i.”

In response to this, Jeonnam Gwangju Special Mayor Min Hyeong-bae said on Facebook that day, "I never said that I would confirm Suncheon National University once the court's decision to injunction was made. My intention was to wait for the court's decision and respect it and proceed with the subsequent procedures."

Regarding the review, he refuted, "It is difficult to accept the part where you called the entire review illegal and unfair simply based on the contents of the report," and explained, "We are specifically considering establishing a medical system at the level of a university hospital and attracting a branch of a large hospital in the metropolitan area and the National Medical Center."

Gwangju City, South Jeolla Province, selected Suncheon National University as a national medical school candidate on the 30th of last month, but Mokpo University, which was rejected, and local governments and politicians in the southwestern region are protesting, filing a lawsuit claiming that the review was unfair.
