Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Won-i claims that the screening of candidates for national medical schools in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do was rushed.

(Mokpo = Yonhap News) Reporter Jo Geun-young = National Assembly member Kim Won-i (Mokpo, Gwangju, Jeollanam-do) of the Democratic Party of Korea demanded an explanation on the 4th, saying that the screening of candidates for national medical schools in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do was hasty.

Representative Kim pointed out problems with medical school screening through a press release that day.

Rep. Kim pointed out, "Sunchon National University specified 'certainty of securing land' as the school's core strength and differentiating factor, but the university, Suncheon City, and Suncheon City Council have entered into a business agreement that stipulates that when the medical school is confirmed to be located, the land around the drama set will be leased free of charge." He added, "It was confirmed that there was no ownership of the land at the time of receiving the application documents for (candidate university)."

He continued, “The statement that the site issue was resolved early is clearly false and undermines the objective judgment of the reviewers,” and argued, “We cannot accept review results based on incorrect information.”

In response to a question from the lawmaker's office asking, 'Did you conduct a legal review regarding the securing of school sites for Mokpo National University and Suncheon National University?', Rep. Kim said, "The integrated city responded that 'there is no data as a result of confirmation by the review agency (Jeonnam Research Institute).'" Rep. Kim said.

According to the current law, in order to build a medical school or university hospital, there must be land owned by the university or land with a lease.

In the case of Mokpo University, the university-owned Mokpo National University Mokpo Campus site has already been secured.

Rep. Kim pointed out that the bigger problem was that the review was conducted without experts regarding laws and administrative procedures related to medical school sites.

Although it is stated that the committee will consist of 8 members with a balanced distribution of 5 specialized areas, Assemblyman Kim reported that among the 8 judges actually appointed by the Unified City, 7 were medical school professors and 1 was a financial consultant.

Rep. Kim argued that although there was a plan to appoint two medical facility design and construction experts, in reality there were none, so it was a poor review without expertise.

Rep. Kim added, "In the category of certainty of securing a site and location (5 points), 5 people gave the same score to both universities, and the remaining 3 gave a narrow score of 0.5 points," and added, "It is difficult to understand why almost the same score was given to Mokpo University, whose site has already been prepared legally and administratively, and Suncheon University, which does not own the medical school site and has not gone through legal procedures other than an agreement (MOU)."
