Ulsan City operates a resident jury to check implementation of pledges for the 9th popular election

Ulsan City announced on the 15th that it will operate a resident jury so that citizens can directly inspect and adjust the implementation plan for the pledges of the 9th popularly elected mayor.

On this day, the city will hold the '1st Resident Jury Meeting' at the Ulsan City Council Citizens' Hall, attended by about 80 people, including Mayor Kim Sang-wook, resident jurors, and officials from the Korea Manifesto Implementation Headquarters.

This meeting was prepared to inform citizens of the pledge implementation plan to be promoted during the four years of the 9th popular election, and to revise and supplement the plan to suit reality by reflecting citizen opinions.

To ensure transparency and objectivity in the operation process, the Korea Manifesto Implementation Headquarters, a private organization, hosts the meeting.

The meeting consists of awarding letters of appointment, keeping pledges, training on the resident jury system, organizing committees, and selecting agenda items.

This year's resident jury was selected from Ulsan citizens aged 18 or older through a random drawing based on population proportion by region, gender, and age.

In particular, to expand citizen participation, the number of members was increased by 20 from the existing 50 to a total of 70.

Resident jurors will hold a total of three meetings, starting with the first meeting on this day, followed by divisional discussion on the 29th of this month, and conclusion on October 13th.

They plan to review the pledge implementation plan and present their opinions to the city.

The resident jury meeting was introduced in 2015 to increase democracy in decision-making and ensure transparency in the process of establishing and implementing pledges.

Mayor Kim Sang-wook said, “We will strive to reflect the valuable opinions of citizens derived from the meeting in the pledge implementation plan so that citizens can feel the results of the project.”
