Yesterday, on September 9 Paramedic Day, the National Fire Agency of the Ministry of the Interior held the 9th "Outstanding Fire Paramedic Awards Ceremony." Deputy Director-General Feng Chun-yi personally presented the awards to honor a total of 87 outstanding emergency care teams and frontline paramedics, including 10 medical director physicians and 30 senior Emergency Medical Technicians - Paramedic (EMT-P). He expressed gratitude to these guardians of life for their selfless, round-the-clock dedication over the years to protecting the lives and safety of the public.

At the awards ceremony, individual and group awards such as "Life Catcher," "First Aid Elf," "Childbirth Expert," "King of Emergency Care," "Emergency Medical Care Group," and "Special Outstanding Performance" were presented. The list of award recipients included 10 medical director physicians recommended by fire departments across various counties and cities, recognizing their long-term guidance of the emergency medical services system. Additionally, 30 senior EMT-Ps were awarded the "Senior Paramedic Contribution Award" in recognition of their frontline efforts in saving critical lives.

Feng Chun-yi stated that emergency medical service has always been one of the three core missions of the fire services. Since the establishment of the National Fire Agency in 1995, it has continuously promoted frontline emergency medical services. Paramedic techniques have gradually upgraded from early basic bandaging and care to today's advanced life support techniques, real-time pre-hospital ECG transmission, and even administering medication and performing ultrasound examinations inside ambulances. The fire service system continuously enhances pre-hospital emergency capabilities with the goal of improving the survival rate of severely injured and ill patients to safeguard the happiness of every family.

The National Fire Agency pointed out that this year's Paramedic Week specially adopted "Save in the Moment" as its campaign theme, emphasizing that every link—from bystanders at accident scenes and 119 dispatchers to frontline paramedics—is a critical force in saving lives. In the future, the agency will continue to promote public awareness of emergency care through educational training and inter-agency cooperation, effectively shortening the golden hour of rescue to jointly protect lives in critical moments and build a mutually supportive and resilient social safety net.
