The US military has helped transport more than 900 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz since May

The US military has assisted commercial vessels in transporting more than 900 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz since early May, US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Tim Hawkins told Al Jazeera.

U.S. Central Command spokesman Tim Hawkins reiterated Washington's assertions that Iran "does not control" the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the U.S. military has helped commercial ships transport more than 900 million barrels of crude oil through the waterway since early May.

Earlier on Wednesday, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that oil transit through the Strait of Hormuz was at a record level and amounted to 18 million barrels over the past 24 hours.

On February 28, the United States and Israel began striking targets in Iran, to which the Iranian side responded with its own strikes. At the moment, the conflict remains unresolved.
