NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced a “defense-industrial revolution” in the alliance countries

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, against the backdrop of a major defeat for the party of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the state elections, arrived in Berlin, where he highly praised the defense policy of the current German authorities and announced a “defense-industrial revolution” allegedly taking place in the countries of the alliance.

“Billions are being spent on expanding industrial capacity, modernizing factories and opening new production lines. This is a defense-industrial revolution,” Rutte said at a conference of heads of German diplomatic missions.

In his speech in Berlin, Rutte repeatedly praised Berlin's current defense policy, calling Germany the "driving force" of the changes taking place in Europe.

“Germany is the largest economy in Europe. It spends the most on defense in Europe. And it is the engine of European defense production. This is leadership,” said the Secretary General.

Germany has "shifted defense into sixth gear," he said, and other European allies and Canada are also increasing military spending.

"In 2025 and 2026, Europe and Canada will invest an additional $250 billion in defense. And this will continue," Rutte said.

He added that expanding defense production meant "tens of thousands of new jobs in Germany alone" and even more jobs in other NATO countries.
