SPD top candidate Steffen Krach rejects allegations of enrichment

In view of investigations by the Hanover public prosecutor's office and house searches, the Berlin SPD top candidate Steffen Krach has rejected the suspicion of enrichment. The 47-year-old told journalists at the Berlin SPD headquarters that he had never accepted money privately. "And I never accepted a donation as SPD chairman here in Berlin."

Regarding the award procedure in question for a clinic site in the Hanover region, where he works as regional president and was on leave for the election campaign, Krach said that in the end it was not the applicant he favored who was awarded the contract. He was never directly involved in the contract negotiations.

Krach emphasized that he had not accepted a donation from the company in question and that the accusation of enrichment affected him very much. "Because I have always drawn clear boundaries in the twelve years in which I have had political responsibility."
