Independent legislator May Chin's 70-year-old former office director, Chang Chun-chieh, has absconded after jumping bail.

The investigation into legislator May Chin's alleged violation of the Anti-Corruption Act has expanded. Her "chief accountant," Chang Chun-chieh, was required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet while on bail. Unexpectly, Chang cut off the bracelet, discarded it in Daan Forest Park, and fled. It is understood that Chang is currently moving erratically across southern Taiwan. With the spring tide of the first day of the lunar month approaching, a source familiar with the matter noted that the "optimal time for smuggling out of the country is near," making the next two days crucial.

It is understood that prosecutors and police have tracked Chang's escape route. After discarding the electronic bracelet, he hailed a taxi to Taoyuan, contacted his handler Zhou Huankai along the way, and switched cars to travel to Tainan. Police located the taxi driver, who stated that Chang did not utter a single word or close his eyes to rest during the entire trip to Tainan—an unusually rare guest who left a deep impression.

Chang is currently targeted as moving erratically across Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung. He continuously changes disguises, switches taxis, and heads toward crowded areas to create dead ends, multiplying the difficulty of the search. Heavy police forces are currently deployed in central and southern Taiwan, while Coast Guard units have also been notified to step up inspections to prevent Chang from being smuggled out of the country.

A source familiar with the matter revealed that the probability of Chang still being in Taiwan is very high, simply because it is not yet the best time to flee by boat. The optimal time will arrive in two days, making the upcoming 48 hours the utmost priority.

As May Chin's chief accountant, Chang Chun-chieh has handled various matters for her over many years and possesses extensive political and business networks. It is assessed that he is receiving guidance from an expert during this flight, including changing disguises, switching vehicles, creating dead ends, and even arranging smuggling details. In light of this, police are taking no chances and have dispatched around 40 officers across central and southern Taiwan, Taitung, and other counties and cities, hoping to arrest Chang as soon as possible.
