KRW 91.8 billion in disaster prevention projects and KRW 55.2 billion in agricultural policy insurance support

(Chuncheon = Yonhap News) Reporter Jaehyun Lee = Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 3rd that it will invest a total of 147 billion won in disaster prevention projects and agricultural policy insurance support this year to respond to agricultural disasters that are becoming more frequent due to climate change.

A total of KRW 91.8 billion will be invested in disaster prevention projects, including KRW 21.7 billion for 9 horticultural crop projects, KRW 15 billion for 3 livestock projects, and KRW 55.1 billion for 4 irrigation facility projects.

We focus on reducing damage from natural disasters by modernizing fruit trees, facility horticulture, and special crop production facilities, modernizing livestock facilities, and installing drainage facilities in frequently flooded areas.

In addition, KRW 55.2 billion will be provided for agricultural policy insurance to reduce farm management losses due to crop damage and fluctuations in the price and quantity of agricultural products.

Crop disaster insurance covers 78 items, including apples, pears, rice, potatoes, and cabbage.

The agricultural income stabilization insurance covers not only a decrease in production due to natural disasters, but also a decrease in income due to a decline in agricultural prices, and supports 20 items, including fall cabbage and highland potatoes, this year.

90% of the insurance premium is subsidized and farmers bear 10%.

Im Won-taek, head of the provincial eco-friendly agriculture department, said, "The frequency of agricultural disasters and the scale of damage are increasing due to climate change. We will promote related policies to ensure stable farming activities, from disaster prevention to damage compensation."
