US President Donald Trump called the failed execution in Tennessee an interesting situation.

According to Trump, the lethal injection drug did not work during the execution procedure.

WASHINGTON, October 2 - RIA Novosti. US President Donald Trump called the failed execution in Tennessee an interesting situation, explaining that the lethal injection drug did not work during the procedure.

“Well, it was an interesting situation,” Trump said when asked by reporters to evaluate what happened.

He did not specify whether the sentence would be carried out, noting that local authorities should be asked about this.

“There was an execution, the drug didn’t quite work,” the president explained.

Trump added that the execution procedure "shouldn't be that complicated."

Tennessee death row inmate Christa Gayle Pike is reported to be in critical condition after surviving two lethal injections. Authorities have ordered a pause in executions in the state until the end of the year.

The execution was scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Riverbend maximum-security prison in Nashville, but the federal Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the proceedings an hour before it began to consider arguments about Pike's childhood abuse. A few hours later, the US Supreme Court, at the request of the prosecutor's office, canceled this reprieve, allowing the execution of the sentence.
