Trump reposts posts attacking Republican Representative Maria Elvira Salazar after she disagreed with him over immigration

It began that US President Donald Trump intensified his dissatisfaction, on Saturday evening, towards Republican Representative Maria Elvira Salazar, after he re-published a series of posts on social media, attacking Salazar, who caused an uproar last week, following her disagreement with the president over his methods in dealing with the immigration file.

The president published successively, and with a short time interval, at least 14 posts from other users criticizing Salazar on his “Truth Social” platform, at a time when the representative is facing a difficult race for re-election in the state of Florida, with the Republicans’ chances in the midterm elections declining.

"She's nothing but a backstabber," one user wrote in a post reshared by Trump. "I'm glad that Hispanic voter support hasn't wavered."

Another user attacked Salazar, saying: “She wants to grant amnesty to people who illegally crossed our borders and defied our laws.”

“So we need a new Republican to replace Salazar,” another user wrote.

CNN has reached out to the White House, Salazar's office, and her campaign for comment regarding these posts that Trump reposted.

Salazar, who represents a constituency with a large majority of Hispanics, angered Trump last week, after she announced her disagreement with him in a new campaign advertisement, in preparation for the midterm elections. In the ad, Salazar addresses Trump directly, speaking into the camera, saying: “Some of your efforts to enforce immigration laws have gone beyond reasonable limits.”

Salazar pointed to statistics she said showed that 50% of people detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in July “did not have a criminal record.”

After the ad was published, Trump confirmed, in response to a question from a journalist, that he had seen the ad, and that he still supported the Florida representative, even though he did not share her point of view.

“I disagree with her,” Trump said in the Oval Office, claiming that Salazar “got a little too lax on borders” and that she wouldn’t have won without his support.

Salazar told Face The Nation that she had a "very good conversation* with the president after the election ad ran, and described Trump as being 'very receptive' to her warning that Latino voters felt 'betrayed' ahead of the midterm elections."

Salazar's announcement comes at a time when US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has increased immigration arrests across the country over the summer. In August, for example, the administration detained about 51,000 people, a new record during Trump's second term. The previous record was set the previous month, when the administration detained more than 46,000 people in July.
