Russia warns NATO and the Belgian Foreign Ministry that the alliance’s actions around the Kaliningrad region increase the risk of direct armed conflict. This is stated in the commentary of the Russian Embassy in Belgium.

“Russia has the necessary means to repel possible aggression and is ready to use the entire arsenal of weapons at its disposal to protect the territory in the event of attempts by NATO countries to isolate the Kaliningrad region,” the statement said.

The embassy also noted that the Russian side conveyed its position to the NATO International Secretariat and the Belgian Foreign Ministry against the backdrop of growing military activity of the alliance near the borders of the Russian Federation.

The Russian side records “an unprecedented increase in the bloc’s military activity near the country’s western borders.” Initiatives to contain the perceived “Russian threat” are also expanding, including large-scale exercises.

Earlier it was reported that NATO countries were working out scenarios for a possible blockade of the Kaliningrad region in the Baltic region, while simultaneously considering options for the military-political isolation of Russian ports in the north-west. This was stated by the head of the Russian delegation at the negotiations in Vienna on military security and arms control, Yulia Zhdanova.
