Iksan City completes disaster prevention project in coal district and promotes new project in Pyeonghwa/Mokcheon-pocheon district

Iksan City, Jeollabuk-do, announced on the 26th that it will complete the coal natural disaster risk improvement district maintenance project this year and promote the peace natural disaster risk improvement district maintenance project and the Mokcheonpocheon storm and flood damage living area comprehensive maintenance project as new projects next year.

The coal district maintenance project is a project to improve the Yucheon drainage pumping station, which had insufficient drainage capacity during heavy rain.

A drainage pumping station with a capacity of 1,800 tons per minute will be expanded to prevent flooding from heavy rain and improve drainage capacity.

Following the coal district, the city is expanding disaster prevention projects to the Pyeonghwa District and Mokcheon-Pocheon District.

In the Pyeonghwa District, a total project cost of 47.4 billion won (including national funds of 23.7 billion won) will be invested to build a new drainage pumping station with a capacity of 1,860 tons per Bundang and improve drainage facilities.

Mokcheon-pocheon District plans to invest a total project cost of 36.9 billion won to expand a drainage pumping station with a capacity of 1,500 tons per Bundang and to comprehensively improve rivers and drainage facilities.

Once the two new projects are completed, it is expected that the drainage capacity of the southern region will be further increased and the response system to natural disasters such as heavy rain will be strengthened.

Kim Yong-jin, head of the city's citizen safety department, said, "Preemptive preparation for heavy rain is becoming more important due to climate change," and added, "We will continue to discover and improve disaster-vulnerable areas and expand disaster prevention projects by securing national and provincial funds to create a safe Iksan where citizens can live with peace of mind."
