Sejong City will hold a nighttime reading culture event called ‘2026 Hangul Firefly Jiphyeon Exhibition’ on the 10th of next month.

Sejong City announced on the 27th that it will hold the '2026 Hangul Firefly Exhibition', a nighttime reading culture event, at the Sejong Arts Center and the city symbol square on the 10th of next month.

This event, held under the theme of ‘Hangul, a night of reading with light,’ will feature reading and relaxation spaces, performances, and experience programs that combine books and light.

At the event venue, there will be 'Firefly Reading Courtyard', an outdoor relaxation space where books and light come together, 'Independent Bookstore Book Playground' where 24 independent bookstores across the country participate, 'Jiphyeonjeon Outdoor Bookshelves', and 'Geulpungryu Madang'.

At the independent bookstore's book playground, books selected by each bookstore are displayed and sold and experience programs such as transcription and bookmark making are operated.

In the book talk concert Geulpungryu Madang, author Cheon Myeong-kwan, who wrote the novel 'Whale', translator Deborah Smith, who translated Han Kang's 'The Vegetarian' into English, and lyricist Kim Ea-na, who wrote the lyrics for singer IU's 'Good Day', will participate.

They hold conversations and read sentences under the theme of ‘Hangeul, Connecting Hearts’ and introduce the charms of Hangeul contained in literature, lyrics, translations, and music.

Anyone can participate in the event for free.

Lee Jae-gang, head of Sejong City's Korean Culture City Department, said, "We will organize an event so that citizens can leisurely read books and enjoy culture in a space where Korean language, books, and light come together."
