A mudflow warning is in effect in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds expected.

VLADIKAVKAZ, September 6 – RIA Novosti. A mudflow warning is in effect in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria, where mountaineers were caught in an avalanche, the press service of the republic’s Emergency Situations Ministry reported.

On Sunday, the Main Directorate of the Emergency Situations Ministry for Kabardino-Balkaria reported that a group of 15 mountaineers had been caught in an avalanche. According to preliminary information, two people died and three were injured. Ten others remain trapped under the snow. Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, and a helicopter was deployed.

“Heavy rain, thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds of 20–25 meters per second are expected in some areas; water levels on rivers are expected to rise to unfavorable marks in some places, and small-volume mudflows may occur in the mountains,” the statement said.
