Yangsan St. Mary's Hospital designated as a local emergency medical institution... Expected to resolve emergency medical service gap in Ungsang area

Yangsan City, Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 24th that citizens will receive prompt and stable medical services by designating Yangsan St. Mary's Hospital, which recently opened as a general hospital, as a local emergency medical institution.

Local emergency medical institutions are general hospitals or hospital-level medical institutions that provide 24-hour emergency medical services.

With this designation, the number of local emergency medical institutions in Yangsan increased to two: Bethesda Gospel Hospital and Yangsan St. Mary's Hospital.

Until now, Woongsang Central Hospital served as a local emergency medical institution in the Ungsang region, but it closed in March 2024, creating an emergency medical gap.

Emergency patients had to travel to Bethesda Gospel Hospital, Yangsan Pusan ​​National University Hospital, a higher-level institution, or as far away as Busan and Ulsan.

Then, last March, when Woongsang Central Hospital opened as Yangsan St. Mary's Hospital, access to emergency medical care for residents in the Woongsang region improved.

After opening, Yangsan St. Mary's Hospital secured emergency medical professionals and emergency beds.

Currently, it has a total of 225 beds (214 in the general ward and 11 in the intensive care unit) and 82 rooms, and provides treatment in 12 fields, including internal medicine, surgery, neurology, orthopedics, and pediatrics.

Among the 16 doctors, we secured 3 doctors dedicated to the emergency room and established a 24-hour emergency medical care system.

In addition, to operate a local emergency medical institution, three dedicated doctors including emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and neurosurgery specialists, 13 nurses, emergency medical technicians, and security personnel were deployed.

A city official said, "We have now laid the foundation for citizens to receive prompt and stable emergency medical services," and added, "We will continue to work to expand the emergency medical system to resolve the gap in local emergency medical services and strengthen the medical safety net."
