To prevent major epidemic threats such as African swine fever, the Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office held an "Epidemic Prevention Publicity and Education Seminar for Pig Farmers" and invited Guo Hongzhi, a professor from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the National Chiayi University, to give lectures to help farmers accurately understand the latest disease trends and preventive measures. Two-way exchanges can resolve difficult and complicated pig diseases, strengthen epidemic prevention knowledge and biosecurity concepts, jointly improve pig farms' independent epidemic prevention capabilities, and safeguard the safety of Kaohsiung's pig industry.

The Animal Welfare Department stated that in the face of major pig disease threats such as African swine fever, swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease, epidemic prevention is not only the responsibility of the government, but also front-line pig farmers are important epidemic prevention partners. Pig farm biosecurity is the first line of defense against major animal diseases. From the entry and exit of people and vehicles, environmental cleaning and disinfection, to disease monitoring and abnormal death notification, every link cannot be relaxed.

The Animal Welfare Department recently held a second educational lecture, inviting Professor Guo Hongzhi from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Chiayi to teach in person. Through professional analysis and practical experience sharing, he led farmers to understand the latest international epidemics and Taiwan's prevention priorities. The course content covered "International African Swine Fever Overview" and "Current Important Pig Diseases and Biosecurity Epidemic Prevention in Taiwan". Comprehensive discussion time was also arranged to allow farmers to have face-to-face two-way exchanges on daily feeding management and epidemic prevention, so as to deepen correct concepts and implement them in daily management.

Director Xu Mingzhang emphasized that epidemic prevention work must start from daily life. Only by close cooperation between the government and the pig industry can a complete epidemic prevention network be established. In addition to continuing to handle various epidemic surveillance, pig farm inspections and visits, and epidemic prevention guidance, education and lectures are also used to enhance farmers’ epidemic prevention knowledge and jointly protect the safety of Kaohsiung City’s pig industry. Agriculture Director Yao Zhiwang called on farmers to do a good job in biosecurity control on the farm. If any abnormality in pigs is found, they should report it immediately. He emphasized that there are no bystanders in epidemic prevention. Doing every small detail from the pig farm is to maintain the strongest line of defense in the pig industry!
